RPT 00004 : ROOMS can hang on autoboot, and what then?
ROOMS build: 384
Status: to be investigated
You can configure ROOMS to autostart when your PC starts, and you can configure
ROOMS to use DirectX.
Some DirectX configurations prove unsatisfactory and may lock up (i.e. computer stops
responding) when ROOMS comes to the end of its load sequence.
If this happens, you may not be able to get access to the ROOMS Setup program
to stop ROOMS autobooting, and you may be effectively locked out of your computer.
The solution is to reboot your computer, and when Windows starts loading
press the F8 key. This will cause Windows to display a Safe Mode menu.
When this appears you need to choose to start Windows in Safe Mode.
In Safe Mode, Windows will not attempt to start ROOMS and will start the
computer with only the minimum of software operating.
This lets you start the ROOMS Setup program by hand (e.g. double click
on RSetup.exe in the ROOMS "bin" folder). And the setup program allows you
both to disable the ROOMS autostart feature, and to adjust the DirectX
settings to something more reliable.
Once you have turned off ROOMS Autostart and changed DirectX configuration,
reboot your computer and this time let it boot fully.
